    Caring Hands Charity Welcomes you Supporting Independence and Quality of Life of Older and Disabled People How We Help The Difference We Make Better Daily Living We can offer you options which can help to maintain and /or improve how you manage day to day with those everyday things which may be getting a little more difficult. Helping you to remain in your home for longer, feeling safe and comfortable, these options have been identified as important. Laundry Collection and Delivery Small Items of Equipment Handyman and Gardening Advice and Advocacy All advice is impartial and completely confidential. The Welfare Benefits Advice service is free of charge. Our independent advisors can help with benefit applications, that can be quite daunting. Often a small increase in basic costs can push a person into the poverty trap, we are here to help remove this worry. First Stop Advice and Signposting is exactly what it says! We're here to answer your queries and offer you information on some supporting organisations that could benefit your situation. We will try our best to help and at the least, give you choices to consider. ​ Wellbeing It would be a pleasure to help if you'd like a little company. We have carefully selected and thoroughly vetted some lovely volunteers, who are waiting to visit people at home, in hospital or care settings and over the phone. Sometimes a little extra is needed and we are lucky enough to have second year degree students who can offer a personal counselling service for that one to one support if needed. We are hoping that our groups will be active soon as this part of wellbeing has had a very positive impact on reducing loneliness over the years.     Caring Hands Community Launderette The Community Launderette is based at 38 Wretham Place (nearly next door to our charity) it generates a small amount of income for our charitable services and this income is used to subsidise our charitable work. Everyone is welcome to use our launderette, in fact, the more you use, the more you support our work.     Counselling We are pleased to offer Counselling this is a free service offering a safe and supportive environment, in which you can talk through issues/feelings that cause you difficulty or concern. Wherever possible, we will try our very best to help. In some cases, there may be a particular need that requires a more specific approach, if we are unable to offer this and feel that another organisation could offer a more suitable service, then with your permission, we can refer you to them.   • Small Aids | Caring Hands Charity

    Small Aids We provide small equipment aids, free of charge, by referral from a health professional. These items help older people to remain independent in their home for longer than they may have managed without them. Free Small Items of Equipment This service helps people to remain independent in their home for as long as they wish and it is safe for them to do so. We are only able to provide items, which are within our budget and can be obtained from our supplier. Types of small equipment aids we supply include small household and personal aids. We are pleased to offer the use of a wheelchair at no charge. The length of loan will be agreed dependant on the need. Donations are gratefully accepted for this service. We also have a small number of Walking Trolleys and Perching Stools for short time loan or sale. Access to this service These professionals normally carry out an assessment and can request small equipment aids on behalf of their client: Occupational Therapists Doctors Health Visitors Social Workers We rely on their expertise when we supply items. Each request is based on the individuals needs. And in most cases, once we receive a completed referral form, we will supply requested items on the same day. A designated professional, relative, carer or friend can collect small aids from our office during the opening hours . We can only provide this very unique service, through the support of several Trusts and Foundations and of course, your generous donations.

    Welfare Benefits Advice The Welfare Benefits Advice service is free of charge and available to people who live in the East End of Newcastle upon Tyne. How Can We Help All advice is impartial and completely confidential. We provide help and advice relating to most Welfare Benefit Issues. A short examination of your benefits can be carried out to confirm you are receiving the correct amount of entitlement. Our expert could help you to claim benefits which you may be entitled to. We can help you to complete all necessary application forms and negotiate with relevant departments, relating to many ongoing benefit problems on your behalf. If we are able, we may provide representation at Social Security, Disability and Medical Appeal Tribunals. We are registered with Advice UK and our advice workers attend training seminars to keep them updated of any changes introduced in relation to the benefits system. How and When to Get in Touch During Office Hours - contact us in person, by phone or email Every Tuesday 10.00am-12.30pm – Telephone Help and Advice service (no appointment needed). Our adviser will speak with you at their earliest opportunity. You may have to wait or be asked to wait for a call back at a specific time. Every Wednesday 10.00am-3.00pm – Appointments only. These appointments are booked after an initial call from the advisor.

    About Us When We Began Established in 1992 and registered 1994 Caring Hands is proud to be an established part of the community, helping older vulnerable people to live independently. We are a point of contact for many people who directly and indirectly need our support and we are very proud of what we have to offer. Our positive impact is thanks to the help of our dedicated volunteers, staff and the people we support in the local community. At the heart of charity lies our ability develop core projects in response to listening to vulnerable people living in Newcastle upon Tyne. Our Aim is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Our Story The true ownership of this charity belongs with the local community, as a consequence of this, we have adopted a process of constant informal conversations with our beneficiaries and stakeholders to identify their wants and needs. From its inception, Caring Hands has been based on identifying need by listening to the issues faced by people and acting as a catalyst to address provision of appropriate support. Our Vision With our support, the most vulnerable members of our community, will enjoy a high quality of life, sustained independence and remain valued and active in their community if they wish to do so. Our volunteers are key to providing help through services, we will continue to recruit, train and retain these generous individuals and groups.
